David L. Thomas
Dave entered the computer field in 1964 as a field engineer for UNIVAC after graduating from Radio College of Canada. He installed, and repaired mainframes, mid range and small computers. He became a computer programmer in 1968 and was certified as a Registered Business Programmer by the Data Processing Management Association in 1970. He first worked in the applications area programming business systems and then concentrated in the systems area doing mainframe operating system installation and maintenance and wrote highly technical routines primarily in assembly language for use by the applications programming staff as well as routines related to system functions such as performance, diagnostics, monitoring, and conversions. In the 1980’s and 1990’s Dave concentrated on database applications on personal computers using FoxBASE and FoxPro.
Since 1965, Dave has been responsible for in-house education for the applications and operations staffs. He has also done instruction and consulting for companies and individuals.
Dave decided to continue his working career by teaching. To that end, in 2005, he became a Microsoft Office Specialist Master Instructor of Office 2003. Dave teaches Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint. Teaching is done onsite in the San Francisco and Sacramento, CA areas.
Dave is currently achieving Microsoft Application Specialist status in Excel 2007, Word 2007, Access 2007, and PowerPoint 2007 as well as completing a large project. He will be available again for teaching in approximately November, 2007.
