Roland "R. C." Fisher
Roland “RC” Fisher is employed with the Alaska Department of Corrections as an Education Coordinator assigned to only female sentenced facility in Alaska. His teaching experience dates back to 1966 as a Master Instructor in the field of Air Traffic Control with the United States Air Force. His ability to deliver quality education and training programs was rewarded when Headquarters U. S. Air Force selected him as the top Education and Training Manager of the Year.
A graduate degree in counseling psychology, an undergraduate degree in occupational education and a strong background in IT, makes for a perfect match in his present job as a correctional educator.
His philosophy is simply state in a recent article in the Mississippi Press Register: “The reality in my eyes is that one day; the prisoner will be released back into our neighborhoods and society. If I can equip that prisoner with viable skills and certifications to them a good job, maybe we can assist in stopping the revolving door syndrome and to reduce recidivism.”
R. C. Fisher’s “No Prisoner Left Behind” initiative is grounded in his dedication and determination to see his incarcerated students learn to the best of their abilities. His students learn how to repair computers, set up networks, design and manage the simple to complex office management systems. He deploys the most current and updated Microsoft Office, IC3 and other productive IT programs.
His program has become a template for similar efforts at other correctional facilities in Alaska. Conversely, he wants the public to take notice that prisoners are not just doing time at our facilities, but some are choosing to make their time work for them.
R. C. Fisher’s dedicated efforts and hard work were rewarded by being named Outstanding Business/Information Technology Teacher of the Year (2005/06) by the Alaska Career and Technology Education Program. His competition included information/business technology instructors at all levels of academia in Alaska.
R. C. Fisher will not be available as an instructor in the public sector until his current term is up with the Department of Corrections. However, in about eleven months he will be landing in the Tampa Bay area looking for part-time teaching employment in any level of the adult education community.
As a Master MOS and Certified IC3 Instructor he has the talent to deliver instruction with precision accuracy just as he did controlling military aircraft for three decades for the U.S. Air Force.
