Most of our web site clients have us set up email accounts for them with the domain name of their web sites. There are a variety of ways for them to send and retrieve messages with their new email accounts. If they are using Microsoft Outlook, we recommend they create a new profile and email account in Outlook.
The following tutorial will show you how to add a new profile and an email account using Outlook 2002 or 2003.
Before you get started, you will need the following information:
You will need your SMTP server information. Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) will have this information. ISPs usually provide this information on their web sites. Or you could call the customer service department of your ISP to get this information.
You also need your e-mail password.
Adding a Profile
When you initially install Outlook, it automatically creates a user profile called Outlook. User profiles store the configuration of email accounts, data files (email messages, tasks, calendar information, etc.) and other settings you might use in your Outlook session. Let's say you have been using Outlook as your personal organizer and for personal email.
Since you have been using Outlook, you realize how helpful Outlook is in organizing your information. You now want to use Outlook for your business but you want to keep your personal information separate from your business information. To do this, we can create another profile.
1. Open the Mail Setup dialog box. The easy way to do this is to right-click the Outlook icon on your desktop and then click on Properties. If your Outlook icon is not on your desktop, open your Control Panel (click the Start button on the task bar and then click Control Panel) and then double-click on the Mail icon (you may have to switch to Classic View). Your Mail Setup dialog box will appear:
2. Click on the Show Profiles button. The following Mail dialog box will appear:
